The Show Choir blog has been "down" for several weeks (unable to post). It is back up and running so you may check it for Show Choir information and leave questions and comments! I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience!
I am so excited about upcoming "spring" sememster with the Show Choir! The choir will be performing a variety of songs, dance, and a skit for the spring show. The overall theme of the show is "Believe in Yourself/One Person Can Make a Difference in the World." I trust it will an enriching experience for all of the students!
Important Information:
* Rehearsals are every Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. sharp! All singers are
expected to attend every remaining rehearsal in the spring semester to
continue participating in the choir; please refer to the Show Choir brochure for
detailed attendance information.
If a rehearsal or performance were to be canceled or postponed due
to an emergency (inclement weather, etc.) a Remind 101 text would be sent ASAP.
* As stated in the Show Choir brochure, all Show Choir members must be practicing with their practice cd at least 1/2 hour each week to ensure all songs are memorized. Students have been given packets of the songs and some of the "riser choeography" has already been taught which can be rehearsed at home with the cd.
* Dance auditions are closed and the names of the dancers (for
various songs) are posted in the hall outside the music room. A calendar was
given out at Tuesday's rehearsal with a schedule of before school dance
rehearsals (all at 8:15 a.m. in the music room ). It is understandable if your
dancer cannot make one or two extra rehearsals but he/she must attend the
majority of the extra rehearsals to perform in the dance.
* The mini-skit, "Superheroes Support Group," was given out at
Tuesday's rehearsal to interested students. Auditions for the 4 roles are Wednesday February 8
from 3:30 - 4:00 after school in the music room and Thursday February 9 before
school beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the music room. There are 4 available roles.
The skit ties in with the theme that every person - even ordinary people - can
make a difference in the world! The skit will be a part of the spring show.
Students interested in the roles must be available to come to a few before
school rehearsals, please see the calendar (extra copies available outside the
music room).
* Speaking parts (for between songs) will be decided via a drawing within the next 2 weeks.
* There are not enough dance/solo/acting/speaking roles for every
interested student. Dancers were selected by the "dance choreographers" with my
assistance. Actors will be chosen based on who "fits" the character of the role
the best (and excellent attendance) and soloists/speakers will be chosen
via a drawing, concentrating on those who did not have a solo/speaking part last
semester (and excellent attendance).
* Most importantly, it is imperative that students learn to be a
supportive part of the choir/team whether or not they are in the spotlight,
which is part of the learning process.
Note: To ensure an optmal performance experience for the
entire choir, all singers/dancers/actors/actresses/speakers must attend
all Show Choir rehearsals unless the
absence is excused via parental contact, otherwise the special role will be
given to another student.
Furthermore, only the Show Choir members attending the remainder of the Show Choir rehearsals this semester, with the exception of excused absences with parental contact, will get to participate in the spring Day Tour and Wilson's Creek performances.
Our
first performance of the New Year is Friday evening, February 7
at
a Kickapoo home game! The Show Choir will sing "The National Anthem," all
singers are expected to attend. Please arrive around 7 p.m. to line up in West
hall and warm up voices. We sing at 7:25 p.m. in the gymnasium and the game is
scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Singers do not have to stay for the game but may
if they choose. There will be no supervision for choir members after the
performance; therefore, a parent/guardian should plan to meet their child in the
hall or show their child where they are seated for the game. Singers
have been requested to wear a Wilson's Creek t-shirt to get into the game free
of charge, and one parent will also get in free of charge. If a singer does not
have a WC t-shirt, please see Dr. Cavener for a name tag. Students may wear nice jeans;
the ties and sashes do not need to be worn to this performance.
Thank
you so much for allowing me the opportunity to work with your wonderful
students! Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or
concerns; krcavener@spsmail.org or post to this blog...
